Learning from Mao Yisheng's Spirit and Contributing to Technological Innovation in the New Era
On January 26, 2026, Professor Tong Hoi Yee, Henry and Dr. Ye Zhuyifan led 18 PhD students from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Drug Discovery at Macao Polytechnic University to attend the original stage play Mao Yisheng, a key production of the "Backbone of the Republic—Tribute to Great Scientists" initiative. The play vividly portrayed Professor Mao Yisheng’s profound patriotism, unwavering commitment to serving the nation through science, and relentless pursuit of scientific excellence. His inspiring journey—from persevering under harsh conditions to independently designing and building China’s first modern bridge, the Qiantang River Bridge—deeply moved us all.
Professor Mao Yisheng’s spirit is not only a testament to history but also a call to action for today’s scientific community. As researchers in the field of AI-driven drug discovery, we must strive to emulate his firm ideals and pragmatic scientific approach. We should dare to explore the unknown, overcome technological challenges, and align our personal development with the needs of human kind. Let us contribute our passion and wisdom to advancing new quality productive forces and realizing technological breakthroughs. May all students take this experience to heart, cultivate a deep sense of social, national and global responsibility, and boldly scale the heights of science, writing a new chapter of innovation for our generation.
